This month’s Serve More event was an incredibly eye-opening experience. We spent about an hour on Monday, March 14th serving dinner at a homeless shelter located in downtown Indianapolis where anyone in need can get a hot meal, clothing & personal hygiene items. We worked with an organization called HHOOT. HHOOT stands for Helpers Helping Others Outreach Team. They serve veterans, offenders, ex-offenders, seniors and the homeless population.
The dinner event was the culmination of our month long involvement with the organization; earlier we collected personal hygiene items, warm clothing and food. The amazing part of this whole experience was our ability to donate a whole car load of personal hygiene items and warm clothing, in addition to serving dinner to 95 people!
Our Serve More Board noticed the need to give back to those who are down on their luck and we were able to do that in excess.
I don’t want to speak for everyone who donated, but seeing these people leave with enough food to feed them for a week, warm clothing items and hygiene items really made me realize how our Rainmakers organization is changing the community for the better. Sometimes we tend to take for granted the many blessings we have and I want to commend everyone for helping out our brothers and sisters in our community. I think this whole initiative really showed our support for those in need, no matter what their race, religion, or financial standing may be. Steve Gustke and Nikki Lewallen were absolute rock stars for this initiative and I have to give all the credit to them, our Rainmakers family and everyone who supported this initiative.
