How I Know Your 2011 Weight Loss Resolution Will Fail

I hate to say it that way, but it’s true. Most people make the very same mistakes when it comes to losing weight. Unfortunately they are not being “fed” the right information.

Here are 3 mistakes you may be making:

You haven’t addressed the past excuses

If you’re starting a diet this year, chances are you have tried one before and failed. Without addressing the real reasons for your past failures, you won’t succeed now. Make a list of the reasons you feel you have failed in the past and then write down how you are going to handle each differently this time.

You are trying another magic diet, pill, or drink

Billions of dollars each year are spent by people who are looking for the magic bullet to weight loss. You didn’t get in this situation overnight, and these methods won’t work long-term either. They’re typically unhealthy, unsustainable, and expensive.

You haven’t asked people to hold you accountable to your weight loss goal.

With life changes, it is hard to adapt to a new way of living – and it can be next to impossible to do it on your own. Share your goals with as many people as you can, and ask them to frequently ask you to report how you are doing. Consider a weight loss coach who has experience in helping people successfully achieve weight loss goals.

When you recognize this as a journey and make yourself understand that it will take you a while to get there, you will be more willing to create a sustainable program and lifestyle. Remember to introduce changes gradually – including increasing your activity levels. Write down all you eat in a food journal and stick to a simple exercise program. Be patient and persevere.
